Welcome to my blog. Welcome to my family.

I can't believe it myself ...

So .... on Aug 3 I found myself back in the emergency room at Duke. This time I was having sharp pains in my stomach and back. Sara had to take me because Dave was in Florida. I am so blessed to have such a great family. She stayed with me from 10 am to 2 am (until Dave got in). She had to have been bored out of her mind. That is true love! I knew that it was bowel related but hoped this would be a quick trip. It wasn't. I was in the hospital for two full weeks. Two weeks filled with lots of bowel treatments, an NG tube (a tube down my nose/throat and into my stomach, and also the worst thing I have ever experienced in my life), and a picc line feeding me nutrition. I ended up going 12 days without food. It was definitely the most interesting way I know of to lose baby weight. I have to say that I don't recommend it. The first couple days I was in the hospital the nausea and pain could not be touched by medicine. I was receiving 4 different nausea medicines around the clock and morphine every 2 hours. The pain would not subside. The treatment for the root of the problem was to just wait it out. I don't like waiting. I only got to see Everett twice while I was there. I worried about germs in the hospital, but I missed him too.

While I was in the hospital my mom continued to stay with Everett. She was here for almost five weeks watching him. I am so blessed and thankful to have a mother like her. I needed her so much, and she was a HUGE help.

So finally after 4 trips total to the hospital, I hope to be home for a very long time. Now I have three weeks to spend with just Everett. After that I'll start watching my niece Stella again. I hope I'll be fully healed by then and will be able to care for a toddler and a newborn. I think I'm about as tough as they come, so I'm sure I'll be able to handle it. I've handled worse! :)

While I was at the hospital (Aug 3-Aug 17)

Since the hospital has so many germs, I didn't want Dave to bring Everett too much. But I missed him, so he did come see me a couple of times. Here they are on my hospital bed. Dave stayed with me every night (except one, and Sara stayed). It was so comforting to have him there, and I appreciate his commitment to me so much. You should have seen the pull out chair he had to sleep in!!!
Everett laying on my hospital bed. I couldn't hold him very well because of the wound on my stomach. He kicks right where it is. Also, as you will see in the next picture, I didn't want him to pull the tube out of my throat.
I debated on if I was going to post this picture or not because it is not at all flattering, but it shows my state of being while at the hospital. I was very down while I had the tube in. It scratched the back of my throat giving me a sore throat and making talking difficult. I also had a runny nose the whole time it was in. I guess it was irritating my sinuses. It sure was irritating me! Try sleeping with one of these things in! But ultimately, it help make me better. It sucked out all of the acids in my stomach that weren't going through my intestines. This helped me to not puke and gave my bowels time to repair.
Dave put this shirt on him while I was at the hospital and sent me a picture. I don't know what kind of fox is pale and sickly looking. I'm coming around though and working on fox status. :)

After I got home (Aug 17 & on)

My mom stayed with Everett the whole time I was in the hospital. She has been such a blessing to me. I could not have done it without her. She ended up staying for five weeks. She was so sad to go home. I have a feeling she'll be back soon.
HATS!!! I don't know why, but he hates it when you put a hat on him. haha.

This one is for Poppy. Poppy (Dave's dad) loves bucket hats because, according to him, they are great for sunny days and rainy days.

How can you resist that chubby face? I don't know why Dave tied it at the bottom, but it makes this picture extra funny.
I love the "ear" hats on boys. I mean they don't get bows, so at least they get "ear" hats.

Stephanie bought us the cutest outfit. I'm glad I got a couple of good shots of him wearing it ...
before this happened! I love my expression in this picture. I'm thinking, you have got to be kidding me. I really wanted to wear this dress today!!!
Look he's a baby genius. Only 7 weeks old, and he can hold his own bottle!

First stroller ride. Dave and I took him to the mall this past Saturday. Even Glowie got to come along. He loves his glow worm.
He did a great job. Translation: He slept the whole time. :)
